Biography

Is it Bill Wilmoth or Perry Mason? From the days when the popular TV show was broadcast, Bill always wanted to become a lawyer. Similar to his on-screen hero, Bill has a passion for defending clients and learning about the ins and outs of their business. Bill’s calm demeanor and practical advice garner him the reputation as a steadfast advocate who protects his clients. He is experienced in defending complex commercial, energy, security, and healthcare cases as well as counseling clients in healthcare compliance audits, healthcare fraud, and white collar criminal investigations.

Bill is the former United States Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia. Bill is a member of the firm’s White Collar Crime and Corporate Investigations Team and its ESG Team.

Representative Experience

Represented various banks and credit card companies in WV Consumer Credit and Protection Act litigation
Represented major national brokerage houses in securities litigation
Defended banks, brokers, and brokerages in investigations by WV Attorney General
Represented energy industry defendants and witnesses in major U.S. white collar criminal prosecutions
Represented large energy companies in significant personal injury, administrative, and commercial litigation matters
Represented major brokerage house in major consumer fraud case
Represented physicians and hospitals in health care fraud investigations and qui tam actions
Defended individuals and companies charged with violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act by the U.S. government
Provided advice and assistance in resolving multiple government investigations of Medicare and Medicaid payments to providers (including matters resolved without action and those resulting in consent decrees)
