Steptoe & Johnson’s Benedict Kirchner Selected as Rule of Law Officer for the American Bar Association International Law Section

Meadville, PA – Benedict J. Kirchner, an attorney in Steptoe & Johnson PLLC’s Meadville office, was selected to serve as the Rule of Law Officer for the American Bar Association (ABA) International Law Section. The ABA International Law Section supports international policy development and promotes the rule of law to international law practitioners, educating both its members and the international legal community.

As the Rule of Law Officer, Kirchner will be responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the Section’s international development and technical assistance work, specifically rule of law projects including Section rule of law-focused programs and related activities undertaken by the Section’s 50 plus regional and practice specific Committees, Task Forces, Working Groups or Interest Groups as well as coordinate the activity of all rule of law activities undertaken by the Section, including requesting rule of law activities undertaken by other organizations requesting the Section’s assistance Groups. He will also manage international rule of law projects, help to implement related activities undertaken by the Section’s committees, and deliver monthly reports to the Executive Committee on the progress of these efforts.

Kirchner focuses his practice on drafting and negotiating contracts for clients who are buying, selling, and developing energy assets in the Appalachian Basin and Texas. He also assists energy and other companies with supply chain, foreign investment matters, international trade, and related compliance issues.

The American Bar Association International Law Section is the leader in the development of policy in the international arena, the promotion of the rule of law, and the education of international law practitioners.
