Benjamin C. McKinney

Biography

Ben McKinney’s practice is focused on energy and natural resources law, with an emphasis on oil and gas law in the Appalachian Basin, specializing in title, due diligence, and asset acquisitions and divestitures. Ben is an informed and proactive counselor for his clients, with experience across multiple industry sectors. He regularly assists clients with managing due diligence for asset acquisitions and divestitures, conducting surface and mineral title examinations and preparing corresponding title opinions and risk assessments, and working hand-in-hand with in-house land and legal teams to help them achieve operational results. Clients enjoy working with Ben because he gets it – he appreciates the importance of knowing a client’s business from the ground up, giving practical advice, and understanding how a project fits into clients’ overall business goals.

Representative Experience

  • Hands-on experience working closely with in-house legal and land groups in both the upstream exploration and production and midstream sectors to help major E&P and Midstream companies achieve operational goals
  • Performed due diligence, undertook curative work, and prepared transactional documents for multi-million dollar energy transactions to assist energy clients in development efforts
  • Assisted with project management and document review associated with major title and asset development projects for a variety of energy clients
  • Performed title examinations and drafted corresponding title opinions to assist a wide variety of clients in acquiring desired property rights
  • Assisted with the title commitment, preparation of transactional documents and curative work related to multi-million dollar real estate development project
