Biography

Mattie Shuler has a track record of being two steps ahead. As a second-year law student, she delivered her first argument before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and won the George C. Baker Cup Appellate Advocacy Competition. Mattie then served as the first extern law clerk for Chief Justice Elizabeth D. Walker, where she sharpened her writing and gained invaluable knowledge of the inner workings of West Virginia’s highest court. At 23, she was the youngest graduating member of her law school class.

Mattie now focuses her practice on professional liability and appellate matters.

Representative Experience

As supporting defense counsel, won jury trial for large international metal manufacturing client in dispute over indemnification responsibilities worth over $1 million from late 1980s acquisition agreement.
Drafted successful motion to dismiss for failure to comply with requirements of the West Virginia Medical Professional Liability Act.
Drafted multiple amicus curiae appellate briefs on behalf of interest groups.
