Josh Jarrell is an economic development and real estate lawyer who is in the know with what is happening across the region. He regularly advises his business clients, corporations, partnerships, and sole proprietors in all life cycles of their business, from entity formation and succession planning. In addition, Josh has a robust commercial and residential lending practice.
Josh has extensive experience in public and private project finance, including the issuance of taxable and tax-exempt bonds. Clients depend on Josh to help them obtain grant funding and make the most of their development dollars through programs like Tax Increment Financing, Opportunity Zones, and Tourism Development Act tax credits.
Josh co-leads the firm’s Renewable Energy team and advises developers and other participants on development issues involving wind and solar projects. Josh also leads the firms’ Opportunity Zones working group and has advised clients how to invest in opportunity zones in compliance with state and federal tax laws and regulations.
Experienced in all facets of the emerging cannabis industry, Josh helped found the firm’s Cannabis Counsel which advises the firm’s cannabis clients on applying for hemp and medical cannabis permits, day-to-day operations, and compliance obligations for growers, processors, and dispensaries.
Josh is the former Deputy Secretary and General Counsel at the West Virginia Department of Commerce. Clients appreciate his business minded approach and accessibility as much as they do his legal experience. Prior to going to law school, he was a legislative aide to Senator Rockefeller in Washington, D.C.
