Josh Jarrell gained valuable experience working in government at the federal level before going to law school. His experience, in both the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Senate, continues to shape his practice as he helps clients achieve their business goals. Josh’s clients depend on him for help during each phase of the business lifecycle. Josh is known for helping clients when they are forming businesses, changing ownership and structure, negotiating contracts, expanding operations, and working to maximize profit. His work throughout the region has built valuable relationships nationwide and fostered in-depth knowledge of options available to real estate developers and business owners in West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
Josh is uniquely positioned to help clients with interests in emerging markets, including cannabis, opportunity zones, alternative, and renewable energy. Josh is leading the firms’ Opportunity Zones working group and has expertise with advising clients how to structure investments and operate in opportunity zones, and advise on compliance with state and federal tax laws and regulations. He is co-lead of the firm’s Alternative & Renewable Energy team and advises developers and other participants on project development and siting. Intimately involved with the firms Cannabis Counsel, Josh is proactively working with clients who are pursuing licensure under the West Virginia Medical Cannabis Act. Within the industry, he is helping clients resolve corporate formation and structuring unique to the cannabis industry. In addition, he is advising existing hemp and CBD clients on best practices as they eye expansion opportunities.
Josh is the former Deputy Secretary and General Counsel at the West Virginia Department of Commerce. Clients appreciate his business minded approach and accessibility as much as they do his legal experience.
