Rick Mackessy currently serves in the dual role of Chief Operating and Financial Officer for the firm. In this position, Rick is responsible for the overall operational and financial management of the firm. Rick originally joined Steptoe & Johnson in 2010 as the firm's Chief Financial Officer and took on the additional operational responsibilities at the end of 2013. He brings to the firm more than 25 years experience in executive-level management positions.
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS
Rick has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from John Carroll University and is licensed to practice as a Certified Public Accountant. He is a member of both the American Institute and Ohio Society of CPAs. He is also a member of the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisers and a member of the Corporate Leadership Advisory Council of the United States Chamber of Commerce.
Rick's specialty is professional service businesses - he has served in key financial and operational roles of several professional firms, including those in the areas of law, consulting, technology, and accounting. He has experience in team-building, improving financial performance, and mergers and acquisitions. Rick has assisted a number of firms in properly sizing their operations and bringing their debt and capital structures in line with their size and expected revenue levels. He has also assisted and served on a number of community and corporate advisory boards dealing with a wide variety of issues including financial management, shareholder value creation, and corporate development.
